A squirrel's diet is not simply nuts and food that humans get rid of. Their meals are full of something more important such as tree barks, roots, acorns, leaves and even some small insects. Some squirrels cannot break up foods like cellulose meaning they're able to ignore tree bark like a source of food altogether.
