The chewing of solid materials assist the squirrel keeps the teeth a certain size. If the squirrel didn't take care of its teeth by doing this, then the teeth would get to much time and make it impossible because of it to consume.

Squirrels collect food year-round, nonetheless they will be more active in their food collecting process inside the fall right before the wintertime.
